I just moved down to the South Bay, and a friend that lives in Lawndale said I have to try this place. I now know why! The food was great, and the service even better! John, the manager or owner or whatever he is, seems to know everyone that comes in here by name. I saw him switch from perfect English to near-perfect Spanish to what I can only assume is perfect Vietnamese, all in the matter of a minute! I mentioned my friend who told me about the place, and he rattled off 4 other names of people I may know that have been to his restaurant, asking if I know them. I did. Dude is good.
I had the spicy beef noodle soup, which was unique and absolutely delicious. It had a combination of pork balls, brisket and rare steak, with spaghetti-like noodles and just the right amount of spicy. The wife had the standard pho, which was solid as well. And the little one (super-picky 6-year-old) had the chicken, onion and rice dish and he absolutely loved it, though he ended up with a big pile of onions on his plate (not unusual).
I've definitely found my go-to pho place in the area. I've been to a couple others in Torrance/Gardena, but nothing that was overly memorable. It's easy to miss, in an area of Lawndale that's not well-known for fine cuisine, so try not to pass this one by!
